Rochester, July 1, 2013 — The law firms of Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP, and Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman PC, two of Rochester’s leading law firms, today announced that they are combining forces. This move joins together the talents of two of Rochester’s oldest law firms; Fix Spindelman was founded in 1851 and Woods Oviatt in 1852.
The Fix Spindelman attorneys, led by Richard Brovitz, who was the Managing Principal at Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman, bring a broad spectrum of experience with them in the areas of commercial real estate and corporate transactions, real estate development, land use and zoning. Joining the firm as partners along with Mr. Brovitz are Jerry Goldman and Betsy Brugg, two of the most prominent land use and development attorneys in the area. Several attorneys, paralegals and support staff will also be making the move.
The addition of these attorneys is part of Woods Oviatt’s strategic plan to expand areas of client service, provide broader platforms to meet increasing client needs and demonstrates its commitment to quality legal services in Western New York.
The move from Fix Spindelman comes after Brovitz and Goldman realized that their professional goals have evolved and that it made business sense to join forces with a firm that when combined can provide greater opportunities and synergies for both the attorneys and the clients they serve.
“The group joining us from Fix Spindelman brings added depth, sophistication and support to our existing capabilities in the areas of Corporate, Real Estate and other Business Transactions, as well as Real Estate Development & Land Use, which includes all forms of land use, zoning approvals, environmental compliance matters, negotiation of construction contracts and government approvals”, said James McElheny, Managing Partner of Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP. “With the addition of this great group of lawyers, we are continuing the strategic expansion of our firm. Working together, we will be able to provide even more comprehensive service to the growing needs of our clients."
"We were attracted to Woods Oviatt because of the synergy created by joining together to provide our clients with the best possible legal services available in our area. Woods Oviatt’s stellar reputation, its very broad platform of legal services and its commitment to its clients and the Rochester Community, made joining forces with them an easy decision for us", said Richard Brovitz.
