Christopher S. Ruprecht is an Associate in the Firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group. Chris has significant knowledge concerning all stages of patent preparation and procurement including meeting with inventors, drafting applications, responding to office actions, conducting examiner interviews, appeals, post-grant proceedings and reexamination. Chris also provides inventors, in-house counsel and foreign associates with expert client counseling and opinions relating to patentability, freedom to operate, validity and infringement. He also handles trademarks, copyrights, licensing agreements, due diligence in commercial transactions and licensing agreements, as well as providing litigation assistance. Chris has represented diverse interests ranging from small domestic entities to large multinational corporations, and is skilled at leveraging insights from his time working at major U.S. Intellectual Property boutique law firms as well as the United States Patent & Trademark Office to negotiate with examiners and obtain favorable results for his clients in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Chris has several years of practical legal and industry experience across a wide range of electrical, computer, and mechanical technologies, including: wireless networks, devices and protocols (Wi-Fi); telecommunications systems and mobile devices (cellular); multifunctional peripheral devices (MFPs) and printers; semiconductors and integrated circuits (ICs); medical devices; memory devices; consumer electronics; robotics; audio-video delivery and multimedia streaming systems; flat panel displays; computer software; cloud computing systems; digital signal processing (DSP); image processing, lasers, and optics; graphical user interfaces (GUIs); elevator systems; electromagnetic locking systems; electrical and industrial equipment monitoring and controls; power generation and energy distribution systems; data analytics and database management; satellite navigation and global positioning systems (GPS); security, authentication, biometrics, privacy, and access controls; cryptography, key generation and management; virus/malware/attack/tampering/vulnerability/anomaly detection and remediation; program code integrity verification; trusted platform management (TPM); digital rights management (DRM); virtual private networks (VPNs) and virtual machines (VMs); web conferencing systems; and many others.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Ruprecht was an Associate at Wenderoth, Lind & Ponack LLP in Washington, D.C., and at Harness, Dickey & Pierce PLC in its Reston, VA office, where he concentrated his practice mainly in patent preparation and prosecution. Prior to entering private practice as an attorney, Chris was also a patent examiner at the USPTO in the computer networks and security arts.
